Church in Bern Switzerland

May 19

This is what I woke up to out the kitchen window. Tut tut it looks like rain.

Then it was time to wake J. Can you spot him?

Once he'd been roused, dressed and fed he was bearable. Oh, Sunday is fun day.

Here we are all headed to church this morning, while waiting for the bus to take us to the train station in Thun.

We caught our train to take us from Thun to Bern.

Here are J and D in their heavy jackets, it was only sprinkling! Any excuse to wear the slick jackets. At least it gave them the chance to see why a church has coat racks and hangers.

The Bern ward we went to doesn't meet in a freestanding building. Rather it is part of the institute building located on the ground floor of a four story building. The ground floor is shared with a bicycle shop.

While at church we met a friend (Rachelle) of the grandparents who happens to be a concert harpist as well as an instructor. Not something you meet everyday. She was kind enough to let the kids use her harps that she'd learned on. Gave them a little technique and they had a good time.

I missed getting a picture of J playing. Sorry.

Also got a picture of this one that someone had drawn.

After church we schlepped the rest of the grandparents stuff back to the house we're staying at. While on the train ride back to Thun J said he was hungry, so I offered him some landjäger and bread. He readily accepted it and wolfed it down. Later on he asked me for my water bottle, which I gladly shared. D also asked for some bread. Here she is getting the last of her water out of her water bottle.

Once home we thought we'd try and go out to ride the Thunersee (boat on lake Thun). However the weather changed from clear sky's to rain. It afforded me the following pictures of a double rainbow from the same kitchen window that the picture this morning was taken from.

So we relaxed, tried to get some homework done while grandma made Äeplermacaroni. After dinner some of us were listening to Men of the Mormon Tabernacle Choir album. While listening to a Wagner piece it conjured up memories of Bugs Bunny and Elmer Fudd in "What's Opera Doc". Here's a picture of the growing group watching Bugs Bunny and Daffy Dumas Duck with Michael Tilson Thomas conducting an orchestra with the cartoon characters introducing the various parts of Charles Camille Saint-Saëns Carnival of the Animals. Fun was had by all!
