Danielle's class performed a musical version of "Jack and the Beanstalk" in which she got to play Jack's mom. It was the only girl solo in the play, and she did a wonderful job!
Her lisp just adds to the cuteness. She made me proud!

Up next for Jarrett
He's ready for kindergarten! At least his preschool teacher says he is, even if this is what he was doing when they marched in for graduation:
He had a great preschool with a very nurturing teacher. I'm still not sure how he'll handle kindergarten, and I don't think I'll ever be ready to send gentle Jarrett out into the big world, but we're both gonna have to grow up some time!
Lie is in her name
"Can I have a cupcake?" she asks while sitting at the table during dinner.
"Did you finish your pizza?" I ask.
"Yes," she says convincingly while I'm looking at the pizza on her plate.
She lies about poopy pull-ups, even when I can smell it, or hitting someone when I actually saw it. Anytime I ask her "Did you . . ." I can pretty much count on the truth being the opposite of what she says. Even just now Robert said "Wow, you're sweaty!" (she's been running around) and she emphatically replied "No I'm not!"
Fruitful!
One of the reasons I wanted to move to NoCal was to get closer to my country roots. Brentwood is kind of like living in the country but not really having to deal with the inconvenience of living out in the middle of nowhere. I don't have to drive five miles to go grocery shopping and school is just down the hill. We can see grazing cattle out the bedroom window and hear frogs croaking through the night. We even heard coyotes a few nights ago.
About five miles from here there are all kinds of orchards that allow you to come pick your own fruit. When we moved here at the end of July last year, the season was finished so we've had to wait until now to enjoy that. I took the kids to pick cherries last week and they were so excited, more than I thought they would be:
We really lucked out to find an orchard that had just opened that day and we didn't have to climb ladders to pick the cherries. The kids just kept picking and picking and we ended up with over five pounds. Unfortunately, Jarrett and Danielle were not as enthusiastic about eating the cherries as they were to pick them, but Liesl has loved them. My love for them was not easy to hide as my fingers were black for a few days from their sweet juiciness.
We also went to a fruit stand after picking cherries and found some great strawberries, blackberries and apricots. Jarrett and Danielle sat in the backseat eating most of the strawberries while I drove home. Thank goodness for leather seats in the car because there were strawberry stems everywhere!

The next morning: I just saw Wild Kingdom in my own backyard! A hawk swooped down and caught one of the ground squirrels that live in the field behind the house. That'll teach 'em to come into my yard . . . or not, considering they're all out of their burrows already and it's only been five minutes.
